This event is FREE for all CNSE students and faculty.
What is NESS?
The Neuromorphic Engineering Students Society (NESS) is a student organization affiliated with the NSF-sponsored Engineering Research Center, the Center for Neuromorphic Systems Engineering (CNSE). The purpose of NESS is to foster the exchange of ideas between CNSE member laboratories by organizing seminars and research meetings. Since 1996, when NESS was established student members
have organized a seminar series that features both academic presentations as well as non-technical and industry-related presentations. NESS members also regularly invite and host prominent academicians and industry representatives who give talks at Caltech.
What's New About NESS?
We’re
excited to announce to have new co-presidents for 2009-2010, Dominic Rizzo,
Marie Suver,
and Peter Welinder.
Luncheon
Seminars
NESS hosts a weekly luncheon seminar almost every Thursday from 12:00 - 1:00 PM. These seminars are a chance to hear an informal presentation by CNSE students and faculty. Most weekly seminars take place in 239 Moore Lab, unless otherwise noted. The weekly e-mail announcement usually gives the title and abstract of upcoming presentation.
Presenters determine luncheon fare - another benefit of participation!
Past presentations
have come from students such as Doug
Altshuler from the Dickinson Lab talking about the dynamics of hummingbird
and bee flight, Alex
Holub from the Perona Lab sharing his research about object categories;
and faculty, such as Professor John
Dabiri who is studying the ring vortexes created by jellyfish and the
beating human heart.
Not all of our meetings contain serious research, sometimes we just get together to eat and listen to our members on how to serve the NESS membership better.
When's the Next Seminar?
CNSE students interested in joining NESS should join the NESS mailing list or simply show up at the next luncheon seminar.
Invited Speaker Series
CNSE students who are interested in hosting a speaker should contact individuals
in whom they are interested and submit names of those who accept invitations
to Neil Halelamian. Hosting a speaker?
